Job Description

Job Title: Chemical/Process Engineer

Work Type: 24+ month contract (potential for extension)

Location: Olive Township, MI (Onsite – 5 days per week)

Department: J.H. Campbell Generating Plant

Position Summary:

The Chemical/Process Engineer will support plant operations with a strong focus on chemical processing, emissions control, and bulk material handling systems. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective plant performance.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and optimize chemical processes related to urea and ammonia systems used in emissions control

Support on-site chemical manufacturing and processing operations, including slurry production for gas emissions control

Manage and troubleshoot bulk material handling systems, including vacuum systems, conveyors, and hoppers

Collaborate with maintenance teams across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation & controls (I&C) disciplines

Analyze chemical usage and consumption trends based on coal variability; perform year-over-year cost and usage analysis

Evaluate chemicals from both cost-efficiency and operational effectiveness perspectives

Coordinate with engineering teams (Electrical, Mechanical, I&C) to ensure system reliability and performance

Review and interpret engineering drawings; support modifications and process improvements

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field

4–8 years of relevant experience in chemical processing, manufacturing, or industrial/utility environments

Hands-on experience with bulk chemical processing or chemical manufacturing operations

Strong understanding of large-scale process systems, including decanter processes and material handling systems

Ability to troubleshoot complex process and mechanical systems

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in industries such as pharmaceuticals, paint manufacturing, pesticides, or similar chemical processing environments

Background in power generation or utility operations

Familiarity with emissions control systems and related chemical processes
